Soaring Eagles Come Up Short in DIII Quarterfinal Matchup against Trinity, 2-0

HARTFORD, CT. – The Elmira College men's ice hockey program would see its 2024 season come to an end on Saturday against Trinity College in the NCAA Division III Men's Ice Hockey Championship Quarterfinals as the Bantams recorded a 2-0 victory against the Soaring Eagles.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Bantams would take advantage of an early power play opportunity in the first period as Alexander Mozian gave his team a 1-0 lead with a tally at the 7:42 mark.
  • Gerard Marretta added to the Trinity advantage at the 10:40 mark of the first period with an even-strength tally to make it 2-0.
  • Elmira would get a late opportunity on the power play as Trinity would head to the penalty box at the 18:07 mark of the first period. The Soaring Eagles would be unable to capitalize with the extra skater as seven seconds would carry over to the second period.
  • The Soaring Eagles would get two more opportunities with an extra skater on the ice in the second period as the Bantams were called for an infraction at the 2:55 mark. Elmira produced four shots on goal and several good scoring opportunities but was unable to find the back of the net.
  • No penalties would be called in the third period as Elmira held a 12-9 advantage in shots on goal along with pulling the goalkeeper for the final minute of action.
  • Elmira College goalkeeper Kyle Curtin '26 stopped 32 of the 34 shots that he faced in the contest, while his counterpart Devon Bobak stopped 35 shots for Trinity to secure the shutout.
  • The Soaring Eagles blocked 15 shots in the contest as Amedeo Mastrangeli '24 recorded six of those blocked shots. Nicholas Domitrovic '24 paced EC with five shots on goal on the night, while Jordan Gonzalez '24 and Joel Pavey '25 each had four shots on net for the Purple & Gold.
