NEHC Announces Women's Major Award Winners & All Conference Honorees

 

MARSHFIELD, Mass. – The New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) women's division announced the recipients of the league's major award winners, All-Conference and All-Rookie Teams as selected by the league's ten head coaches.

Elmira College's Erika Goleniak (Canton, Mich.) was selected as NEHC Player of the Year. Goleniak led the league in overall goals (16), overall assists (18) and overall points (34). Goleniak's 34 points ranks 8th nationally in Division III. Thirty (30) of Goleniak's 34 points came in league play, ranking first in the conference. The senior forward also led the league in shots on goal (141) and finished tied for first in powerplay goals (5).

William Smith netminder Erin Murray (Hanover, Mass.) earned NEHC Goaltender of the Year. Murray played in all 14 conference games for the Herons and posted an 8-5-1 record in league play. Her eight conference wins were tied for second in that category while her 1.03 goals against average in conference play ranks third. Murray's overall save percentage (.947) was second in the league while her .956 save percentage in league play was tied for third.

Norwich University's Anna Lisac (Euclid, Ohio) was tabbed NEHC Rookie of the Year. Lisac recorded 19 points in league play on eight goals and 11 assists, which ranks tied for fifth in the conference. The first year forward also finished the regular season with an impressive +17 plus/minus rating, two game-winning goals, and 68 shots in conference play.

In his first season in the conference, Salve Regina University Head Coach, David Lun, was recognized by his peers as NEHC Coach of the Year. Lun led the Seahawks to a 14-4-0 record in league play and a 3rd place finish heading into the playoffs. He steered a highly effective offense which ranked 3rd in the league in goals per game (2.44). Lun also guided solid penalty kill and powerplay units, finishing 4th in both penalty kill percentage (88.3%) and powerplay percentage (16.7%). The Seahawks will host the No. 6 USM Huskies in the quarterfinal round on Saturday.

Joining Goleniak on the first team is Norwich University's Livia Brooks (Walpole, Mass.). Brooks registered 14 goals and nine assists in conference play, which ranks second in the league in points per game (1.35). Her 14 goals ranks 2nd in the league. Five of Brooks' goals were game winners, which also ties for second in the conference in that category.

Rounding out the first team forwards is Vermont State Castleton's Moa Carlsson (Stockholm, Sweden). Carlsson's 20 overall points ranks tied for 6th in the league while her 17 points ranks tied for 7th. Carlsson finished the regular season with 70 shots and a +8 plus/minus rating.

Elmira College's Gabby Dougherty (Chelsea, Mich.) anchored a Soaring Eagles defensive unit that surrendered just 21 goals in conference play, ranking second in goals against average in the league at 1.16 goals per game. Dougherty was impressive on the Soaring Eagles powerplay, netting four goals. She also recorded 15 total points on five goals and 11 assists.

Albertus Magnus defender, Molly Martin (Buffalo, N.Y.), rounds out the first team selections. The blueliner was a force offensively, leading conference defensemen in overall points (18). Five of Martin's goals came on the powerplay, which ties for first in the league in that category and ranks tied for 9th nationally.
